Love is joyful

John 15:11

Shortly before he died, Jesus said to his disciples, “I have said all these things to you so that my joy may be in you and your joy may be complete.” It’s all for joy. Life is for joy and humans are capable of boundless happiness. Do you ever experience joy? Etty Hillesum said, “Life is hard but that’s no bad thing…whenever I showed myself ready to bear it the hard was directly transformed into the beautiful.” That’s joy: a beauty that blooms when life is accepted as is and one realizes that nothing can tarnish the ground of love that is one’s source and sustenance. Joy doesn’t come when conditions are right, joy comes when you discover that God dwells within you and loves you endlessly.
