Beloved of Good Shepherd Parish,
Grace to you and peace in Jesus Christ our Lord!
Summer is nearly here! A seasonal change is a good time to make a shift in the rhythm of your personal spiritual practice. What are the details of your daily prayer life? Consider this: get out a pencil and a piece of paper. Write down how you pray and connect with God each day. Look at what you’ve written. Close your eyes. Take a deep breath, long inhale. Now let the breath go from your body, long exhale. Open your eyes. Look at what you’ve written. What do you want to add? How do you feel God is calling you to adjust the details of your daily prayer rhythm? Be bold, but keep it simple. Commit to a daily spiritual practice that you will actually do. One teacher says helpfully, “Pray as you can, not as you can’t.” Sincerity in your relationship with God is more important than extravagance and volume of prayers or practice. You don’t have to make prayer plans for the rest of your life. Just consider a new depth of practice for June and July. A summer practice. Remember: the most important thing is to commit to something you will actually do. Then go for it. Set aside time and space in the day to pray (2 minutes or 20 minutes; the amount of time does not matter. All that matters is that you actually do it), and God will meet you in your practice. Have fun, and remember, it’s all for joy! Life is good and so are you.
Remember this always - God loves you, and I love you too!
Love is all,
Hendree+
