Beloved of Good Shepherd Church,
Grace to you and peace in Jesus Christ our Lord!
When Jesus met a man who had been blind from birth, he rubbed mud on his eyes and seemingly in a sort of silly sense made him more blind. I take it as a mystical metaphor in which Jesus journeyed down into the depth of not only physical blindness but spiritual blindness too. Jesus blinded the man’s capacity to see the world from his egoic consciousness. He no longer saw the world in the dualistic terms of likes and dislikes. Jesus took him into the dark night of the spirit where rebirth begins to happen. The man let go of all his attachments and what came upon him in the act of letting go was a sincere desire that his will and God’s will would be united and that God’s will would be done. Jesus then told the man to go wash his eyes clean. He did, and he came back able to see. My guess is that from that point on, the man saw God in all that he saw. For the rest of his life he was exquisitely useful to God as a pure conduit of love. The man born blind had eyes to see and he loved everyone in sight. That’s the way to use healed eyes.
At Good Shepherd Church we seek to love whoever and whatever is right in front of us. It’s not always easy. Sometimes it’s hard to see what’s lovable in the people around us. So, we keep at it, together our vision is growing clearer by the day.
Remember this always - God loves you, and I love you too!
Love is all,
Hendree+
