Beloved of Good Shepherd Church

Grace to you and peace in Jesus Christ our Lord!

Lent begins this Wednesday with Ash Wednesday services at 7:00 a.m., Noon, and 7:00 p.m. Lent is the 40 day period (not counting Sundays) that leads us to Easter. Traditionally, Lent was a season of preparation during which converts to the faith prepared for baptism in the Easter season. In addition, those who are already baptized take up a special spiritual practice in which they give up or take on something that will help them draw closer to God as we all look forward to the Easter celebration of the resurrection of Jesus.

Lent can be a very powerful season if you devote yourself to a spiritual practice for 40 days. Our parish theme for this Lent is - Love like Jesus. Each week during Lent we’ll release a new spiritual practice for you to try out for a few days. Through our Lenten discipline of Loving like Jesus we’ll flood our homes, workplaces, and community with Jesus’ love as it pours through us and all our words and deeds.

A really special way to start Lent in addition to joining us for Ash Wednesday services is our Silent Retreat. You are invited to join me and my friend, The Reverend Gary Jones, for a day of silence and contemplative teaching. The retreat theme is Silence and Poetry. The day is organized into four two-hour meditation sessions. You can join us for the whole day or come to the sessions that suit your schedule. You can learn more and register HERE. Come join us!

You will be in my prayers as we all make Lent’s journey to Easter. I am so thankful for God’s gift of you to our church.

Remember this always - God loves you, and I love you too!

Love is all,

Hendree+
