When and What is it?
Wednesdays at 7pm in the Worship Space.
Choral Evensong is a service of Evening Prayer sung by church choirs worldwide, from Westminster Abbey to here at Good Shepherd. Rooted in the ancient offices of Vespers and Compline, this centuries-old tradition invites you to experience sacred music while the choir offers evening prayers on behalf of the congregation. If you are seeking beautiful music and quiet reflection, Choral Evensong welcomes you.

A living tradition
When you attend Choral Evensong at Good Shepherd, you join a conversation between God and humanity that spans centuries and continents. This isn’t a concert—it’s an act of contemplative worship that connects you soul to soul across time and space.
You can participate as much or as little as you want. You can volunteer to be a lector, sing out on the hymns, sit in the back row of the Chancel with the choir, and stand during the Canticles. Or, you can sit in the back and just let the music and prayers wash over you.

Timeless
Our Evensong service draws its texts almost entirely from the Bible, proclaiming God’s works throughout history and in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. While the traditional English may sound old fashioned, its meaning remains deeply relevant for today’s world.
Join us as we continue this ancient tradition of evening prayer and choral worship in the heart of Lexington.
Evensong is a timeless service built around an ancient practice of evening prayer first developed in the patterned life of monastic communities. The liturgy we now know as Evensong was crafted and refined over centuries in cathedrals, which was once the center of life for many. This balance between rigor and creativity has bequeathed us with a treasure of sacred Evensong music that affords us the opportunity to pray the same words the faithful have prayed for hundreds of years, while hearing them in ever-fresh and varied ways through the many musical settings in our repertoire. Choral Evensong is where art meets faith in service of worshiping the Lord.
