A Letter from Christine

A little more than a decade ago, a married couple who had been mentoring me gave me a very special keepsake: a beautiful wooden shepherd's hook. Tied to it with a purple ribbon was a note filled with words of encouragement and John 21:15–17, where Jesus reminds Peter, "Feed my sheep."

That shepherd's hook has hung on the wall in every place I've had the privilege of serving since then, from my time as an officer in The Salvation Army to my roles in communication at Asbury University and Asbury Seminary. Every time I see it, I'm reminded of the kind of person I feel called to be, someone who leads with compassion and care, always putting people first.

In many ways, I think good communication is like a shepherd's hook. It gently guides us through a maze of information towards what matters most. As I begin serving as Communications Director, I hope that every message we share will be helpful, informative, and reflective of the vibrant spiritual life that is so evident at Good Shepherd.
