November 12

Beloved families of Good Shepherd,

Peace be with you!  In our appointed reading for this Sunday, the prophet Isaiah proclaims God’s vision of “new heavens and a new earth”, a peaceable kingdom, in which all of creation lives in love and friendship with God and others. Isaiah says, “the wolf and the lamb shall feed together, the lion shall eat straw like the ox…they shall not hurt or destroy on all my holy mountain, says the Lord.”

The upcoming season of Advent invites us to slow down and open our hearts to God’s promise of a peaceable kingdom initiated by the birth of Jesus. The words and life of Jesus, the second person of the Holy Trinity, assure us that the peaceable kingdom of God dwells inside each of us. Jesus fully embodies the Indwelling Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and reveals how deeply and unconditionally God really loves us and all of creation. St. Julian of Norwich says, “God dwells within us in infinite bliss, drawing us ever deeper inward.” When we surrender to the love and the will of the Indwelling Trinity within, we participate in establishing God’s peaceable kingdom in our relationships, homes, and communities.

Many Blessings,

Patty
