Beloved of Good Shepherd Parish,

Grace to you and peace in Jesus Christ our Lord!

Jesus went about all the cities and villages proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and curing what ailed the people. That’s straight out of the Gospel of Matthew. What a great line! The two words that jump out of the sentence and grab hold of me are - good news. What is the good news?

The good news is that God loves you as if you were the only available object for his love and by some strange grace he loves us all the same. The good news is that Jesus Christ is the perfect embodiment of God’s love. The good news is that we can build really wonderful, happy, peaceful lives on the foundation of God’s unconditional love as we know it in Jesus Christ. The good news is that our lives can be sacraments of God’s saving, helpful love stewarded toward our neighbors. That God’s love passing through us might heal what ails them. The good news is that following Jesus in the way of love will save your life. The good news is that love is all.

That’s the good news.
