All Souls' Evensong

Solemn Choral Evensong featuring prayers and music in memory of our loved ones who have departed this earthly pilgrimage. The Choir will sing Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Pie Jesu” from his Requiem, “Sing me to Heaven” by Daniel Gawthrop, Psalm 130, and the Eastern Orthodox chant, Kontakion, sung at Queen Elizabeth II’s burial service at St. George’s, Windsor. The Song of Simeon (Luke 2:29-32), which the Choir sings every week, takes on special meaning at this service as a prayer for the departed.

Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace,

    according to thy word;

For mine eyes have seen thy salvation,

    which thou hast prepared before the face of all people,

To be a light to lighten the Gentiles,

    and to be the glory of thy people Israel.
