The armor of light 4

Here so close to Christmas the armor of light shimmers with a near constant glow. It is not the armor I am wearing that shines so, rather it is the armor of light worn by people I do not know. Everywhere I go if I look closely and slowly I see strangers doing the smallest, kindest little things in great abundance. A young boy holds a door for an old lady. A tall man helps a small child reach something on a high shelf. A handsome dog sits obediently beside his owner as they wait for the crosswalk to clear of cars, so they can cross the street. A young husband holds his pregnant wife’s hand as she stoops to get into their car. A teenage girl smiles at a toddler and asks her if she wants a snack. A teacher in a classroom reads a Christmas story to an attentive crowd of 4-year old students sitting quietly on their carpet squares.

God is pouring all of these people into existence moment to moment. Their source is His love, their armor is His grace, and the light that shines through them is the light of His son whose birth we will soon attend yet again.

Christmas is within sight.

Bethlehem is everywhere.

Put on the armor of light and rejoice: God is here.
