Session Three

Chapter Nineteen

  1. Excuse and forgive Martha and all actives for their criticism of us. We are not without fault or free of ignorance.

Chapter Twenty

  1. Be so engrossed in contemplative practice that you don’t notice criticism.

Chapter Twenty-one

  1. Along with Mary choose the “3rd part” which hangs in the dark cloud of unknowing.

Chapter Twenty-two

  1. Jesus’ love for Mary Magdalene is a mirror image of the love he has for all of us who are called to walk the contemplative path. It is a path of “all consuming longing.” (Julian of Norwich)

Chapter Twenty-three

  1. God’s love sustains those who surrender like Mary did. This the deep mystery of the contemplative path. “All will be well” even when it’s not.

Chapter Twenty-four

  1. “Naked intent” is total detachment and a gentle turning to God and away from all creation.

  2. There are no enemies and people who strive against us do us a favor as they invite us to love all the more.

Chapter Twenty-five

  1. Contemplation will cause you to love strangers and enemies as much as you do your friends and family.

Chapter Twenty-six

  1. You must show up to the practice of prayer and do the hard work of returning to your sacred word. It is hard until it’s easy.

Chapter Twenty-seven

  1.  This is for everyone who wants it.

Chapter Twenty-eight

  1. First take inventory of your past

  2. Then make amends

  3. Love heals.
