Beloved of Good Shepherd Church,

Grace to you and peace in Jesus Christ our Lord!

The most important question any of us can ask is this, “Where are you God?” It’s not a desperate question asked breathlessly in fear. It’s a wondering question asked with a smile. Julian of Norwich wrote in her 14th century masterpiece, The Showings, “God loves it when we seek him.” She also wrote, “There is nowhere where God is not.” Therefore, in every moment of life the very best question is, “Where are you God? I trust that you’re here. Where are you?”

In many ways Good Shepherd Church is a school in which we learn to look for God. Criticizing, complaining, and attaching ourselves to outcomes gets in the way of our search. A sure way to live joyfully is to treat life as a grand adventure on which we are always looking for God, in all moments and in all people. In this way we become prisoners of hope who grow bored with arguing and enlivened by the possibility of a dynamic relationship with God whose presence is “hidden” all over the place.

On our darkest days when all the news is bad let’s ask the question, Where are you God? On our brightest days when all the news is great let’s ask the question, Where are you God? Seeking God pleases God and draws our attention to love. And as our attention is drawn to the flame of God’s love our hearts are mysteriously enlarged. Big hearted people cause peace to break out in the world. May we be those people!

Look for God this week. Everywhere you go, look for God.

Thank you so much for a marvelous Commitment Sunday! The stream of people going to the altar all day long was moving and deeply meaningful and cause for both inspiration and hope! We look forward to announcing the results of both the Annual Mission and Ministry stewardship campaign and the Building Together Capital Campaign on December 7th. If you would like to make your pledge to either or both campaigns you can do so HERE.

Remember this always - God loves you, and I love you too!

Love is all,

Hendree+
