Beloved of Good Shepherd Church
Grace to you and peace in Jesus Christ our Lord!
The disciples were drunk, but not on wine. It was the day of Pentecost which was an important holy day for them. It was a harvest festival and the day they remembered and gave thanks for the gift of the 10 commandments and God’s covenant of love with his children. As it happened, it also marked 50 days since the resurrection and 10 days since Jesus ascended into the heart of all creation. The disciples were gathered together in one place and something like a sudden wind blew through the room leaving them in the strangest state. They could now speak the languages of all the people of the world. They made such a commotion with their new ability that they drew a crowd. Everyone in the crowd heard the Good News of God’s love for all creation in a language that they could understand. They were so surprised and amazed that someone said, “Are these guys drunk?” Someone else said, “They got into the new wine!”
The disciples were drunk. They were high on life and drunk on love. See, when they realized that there were now no obstacles to spreading the love of Jesus among the people, they became overjoyed and delighted unto feeling drunk on the possibilities that lay ahead.
The Good News of God’s love for all creation is exciting news to spread. I hope you get drunk on it.
Remember this always - God loves you, and I love you too!
Love is all,
Hendree+
