Beloved of Good Shepherd Church,

Grace to you and peace in Jesus Christ our Lord!

100 years ago, my great, great uncle, Bishop Lewis Burton, was serving as the first bishop of the Diocese of Lexington. On Sunday, August 29th he visited Good Shepherd which at that time consisted of what they called the parish house which is the building in which our offices currently reside. The worship space we love and enjoy was not yet constructed. In fact, the dream of a new worship space was the occasion for Bishop Burton’s visit. He was here to lay the cornerstone. Alongside the people of our parish he did just that and thus construction on our spiritual home began. One year later they had their first service in their new space. This Sunday, August 24th, we will gather just like they did outside around the cornerstone before each service. We will use selections from the original service and add our own prayers of thanksgiving for the gifts our ancestors gave to build our church. We will thank God for 100 years of worship and ministry, and ask God’s blessing on the next 100 years of life together at Good Shepherd. Come join us as we celebrate together all that God has done in this place!

Remember this always - God loves you, and I love you too!

Love is all,

Hendree+
